Science Roadshow

As part of our continuing investigation on acting like a scientist, last Thursday we had the opportunity to visit the Science Roadshow at Broadgreen Intermediate.

The Science Roadshow is a mobile science discovery centre. Annually it travels the the length of New Zealand in a 15 metre truck and trailer, bringing a range of cool interactive science and technology exhibits into communities. The mission of the Science Roadshow is to support science education in New Zealand schools through science outreach.

Last week we experienced our first block of swimming lessons (the second block will be in Term 4).
On Friday we had great fun in the wave pool learning survival skills and hanging out with Whio Class.

New Zealand Get's Writing

We have recently been involved in the New Zealand Get's Writing Challenge sponsored by the Warehouse Stationery.  We received a package of goodies and set up about writing metaphorical statements describing ourselves.  We then wrote these onto the back of specially designed postcards and sent them off to Green School in Auckland.  We are really looking forward to receiving ours!

St Patrick's Day Fun in Hoiho

We had a great time celebrating St Patrick's Day on Friday.  Thank you to all those who contributed to the shared lunch.  We were very lucky to be entertained by some Irish dancers including Elizabeth who attends our school.  After the demonstration we came back to class and tried a little jig dancing ourselves!

Sailing

Today the second group of sailors departed St Paul's School at 11.15am and headed to the Nelson Yacht Club where we were taught how to assemble our Topaz boat.   We then headed out to Haulashore Island looking for some wind.  It was a fantastic day and heaps of fun!

Hoiho goes electric!

On Friday Ms Hood came in with a very large box.  We were all intrigued. Ms Hood talked to us about the coding project that the Year 7/8's are part of.  We will be learning how to create a code to programme an electrical circuit.  Today we went back to basics and created an electrical circuit.
